Nov 06, 2018 · I dedicated a 1/2” sidelock tool holder with an end mill shank in it set to a known length. I use it to calibrate the tool setter, then use the tool setter to calibrate the length of the probe. As long as the probe is set to agree with the tool setter, the actual length of the calibration tool doesn’t seem to be super critical.

For Z, let's say that the probe sits 20 mm above the stock; once you probe, you know that your bit is now 20 mm above your stock.
