The built-in DVD player works well but the color may need adjustment, otherwise is quite acceptable. An alternate AV source can be added using the HDMI connection (I have a Toshiba combo VHS / DVD player that was hooked up to the old 27" Toshiba) which works well with the new unit (use the AV source - 2nd option - to connect).

The RS232 unit provides all RS232 signals (between +-3V to +/-12V) and will plug into the MAX232 device. Since RS232 voltage levels are generated it will allow operation over long cables.
